Songs about mass killers/killings

The media representations of killings/killers are one the most interesting aspects of the whole "phenomenon" to me, particularly music. I have a bit of a collection but here are some songs I actually like:

The Chills - Strange Case
This one is about the Aramoana massacre, but it actually makes me think of Christchurch. Maybe that's just because of NZ. Has gradually turned into one of my favorite songs.

Mars - Shootin' Spree

Mars was quite infamously attached to the Jeff Weise shooting (somewhat dubiously, I don't think there was ever any proof that Weise liked him, but it was repeated by the news) and I would guess that he made this song and album as a response to that, since the whole album is thematically about school shootings. This song is incredibly sociopathic but it's also pretty good. It's very horrorcore, about a terrible student shooting up his school. Not based on any specific shooting

The 1975 - Looking For Somebody (To Love)

I used to hate this but after listening to it 20 times I developed the auditory equivalent of Stockholm syndrome. This is about Elliot Rodger, and I am absolutely astounded that a band this mainstream broached this topic.

Gezebelle Gaburgably - Richard McBeef

Gezebelle Gaburgably is a femcel "incelcore" musician whose music is surpisingly good. This song is about Seung-Hui Cho, using his play Richard McBeef and some of his personal statements for lyrics. It samples an old as hell reenactment of his play. Kind of wonky but of all the songs about him (there are several) I actually think this is the most true to form.

if you post here with a link pls say the song name in text and the musician in case the link goes down thx

DONT TREAD ON ME - lil darkie

it was made in response to the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings. it gets pretty intense and loud, aggressive, angry n shit, justifiably. it also goes into politics (evidently by the title) like the right to bear arms, self defense acts, and others. it's one of his emotionally rawest songs

Interesting, thanks for sharing. You can really feel that the guy is actually mad, very raw as you said

More songs from my list:

ミラクルミュージカル / Miracle Musical - Variations on a Cloud

This song is, allegedly, about 9/11. Its music video has gotten deleted and reuploaded repeatedly because it contains footage of the attacks mixed with puppets, and it was released on the 11th anniversary of 9/11. There is little evidence of its topic matter in its lyrics besides thematic elements, and mentions of jumping (like the jumpers) and "clouds" which I suppose represent the smoke of the towers. What is Hawley trying to say about 9/11? That we all just do it to ourselves? That we are caught in a never ending cycle? idfk the guy has probable schizophrenia. gud song tho

Desaparecidos - Von Maur Massacre

This song is about Robert Hawkins. This is a pretty straightforward telling of what happened from his POV, to the point where it seems like it's pro-Hawkins, or at least more sympathetic than what I would expect from a normie band. I heard there was once a music video for this. If there was, it is now long gone.

Kinky Friedman - The Ballad of Charles Whitman

Truly, proof that making bad comedy songs about recently occurred tragedies is not a uniquely 2nd millennium phenomenon. this song sucks. if you're gonna make a bad taste song at least make it good

honorary mention for

Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People

super popular so i won't go too much into it, but it's written from the perspective of a bullied, unstable teenage kid named Robert fantasizing about gun violence as revenge.

more interestingly, Adam Lanza was particularly irked by the song, its popularity and the general public's understanding of it. he seems quite annoyed by the fact people think it's about Robert Hawkins, when the name 'Robert' was randomly chosen, according to the band's statements.

the link he keeps quoting as being a 'much better' song (presumably about mass shooters or specifically Robert Hawkins) is a dead link [youtube.com/watch?v=eYThXZdLaX0] - from what i could find, i think the title was 'RegalSin's tribute to Robert Hawkins', but i have no idea what the content actually was. probably troll garbage anyway.

AL mentioned regalsin a few times in his posts, and described them as "another forum user who was infamous for his confusing writing style, due to his poor understanding of English". he also wrote "Say whatever you wish, but I know that my love for RegalSin is real" and "Gay marriage is legal in my state. I was holding out for RegalSin". two peas in a pod or whatever

from my very surface level googling, regalsin seemed to be a famous (at that time) internet troll, spewing racist, pedophilic, antisemitic, and other bigoted views. apparently banned from a copious amount of forums and just an overall shitstain that's hopefully long forgotten by now 🤞

average SBB poster. Jesus, I never knew the RegalSin thing, lol @ him having an entire wiki page dedicated to him, Jesus Christ. Not the pedophilia stuff... SBB was a nightmare portal and the only thing remaining of it is Lanza's archived posts. It is kind of sad that it wasn't archived properly outside of him, I have no doubt that other... interesting characters lurked there. And now no one can make that connection, if a future killer had posted there.

I should probably put this (after I research it again) in some general "history of mass murder discussion online" thread (because I am autistic about web forums) but SBB was the big forum for discussing Columbine. It wasn't the first discussion forum like it (there was also Spanky's). This is all from memory and I haven't read about it in a while, so take it with a grain of salt, but IIRC it started as the forum for that infamous Columbine RPGmaker game in like 2005 or so - it became Shocked Beyond Belief later after a quote from the Columbine kids. It shut down in 2013 abruptly, I forgot why. It might have had to do with Lanza. After it shut down some of the old members made the Columbine High School Massacre forum, but that isn't hosted as reliably and the software suuuucks

From what I know of it it was almost entirely unmoderated and was pretty chaotic. At some times huge swathes of posts were deleted without warning. Average edgy old forum type stuff.

Edit: I looked at the RegalSin link again and I'm dying laughing at the list of websites he was banned from, holy shit what was wrong with him

my personal favorite
Abandonia.com - Posted something incredibly long and weird into the Mortal Kombat movie topic, which nobody felt like reading but it looked stupid anyways. Then something he trolled modern gaming section too. At this point nobody felt like reading these posts in semi-english language generated by his ancient creature anymore so they just banned him.

sums them up pretty well
