Jammes Hannivan, former postal clerk rushed into the costing department of the General Post Office at about 1 pm armed with a revolver shot and injured Ernest James Doble in the groin two times, He then attacked a group of terrified workers, Hannivan shot Mr James Manson inthe chest, right above the hearth, injuring him gravely at the end of his rampage.

After attempting to run from the scene he was tackled by Mr J. Bears and after struggling to take the gun from Hannivan hands, the perpetrator shot himself in the head, ending his rampage.

Hannivan had been fired from his job for assaulting fellow employees.

Hannivan wife when being informed of her husband death told the media she had a premonition trhough the day that some kind of evil was overshadowing the family circle
